Just How Far Will They Go …?

I recently read a report that part of the fantastic fireworks display for the opening of the 2008 Olympics was pre-recorded, but broadcast as live.

Now I read that the charming little girl in the red dress, who sang so beautifully, wasn’t singing at all, but miming while another little girl was singing off-stage.
The reasons given was that the real singer was not beautiful enough!

If the organisers are willing to go to these lengths to show how wonderful their country is during the opening ceremony, I wonder just how far they will go in other respects regarding their performances in the arenas.

I hear my compatriots despairing about just how Britain, rapidly becoming a bankrupt backwater, is going to “compete” with our opening ceremony.

Surely, what happens after the opening ceremony is the competition, not the opening ceremony itself!
