About the Tool-Making Thing-maker

I’m not young, so embarking on a new chapter in my life in 2007 was daunting. But I persevered and am glad that I did.

This new chapter involves travelling to Kenya a lot, at my own expense, and carrying out research and trials on various “brown” technology projects that may help the poorest people in Kenya to improve their lives while trying not to damage the environment.

I am a mechanical engineer by training, but have travelled through technical sales, aerospace and information technology, where I am still scraping a living.

As for home life, after finding myself single again, with both children having left home, I was visiting my mother nearly every day and as she got worse, I decided to move in with her.

It was just as well, as I was there to nurse her through cancer and am now her 24/7 carer when I am in the UK.
